The Crazy Animal

I don?t know if anyone would be apposed to this since humans are so rarely played these days but I thought there might be a way of making them a little more interesting. The Basic idea is sub-divide the human race into tribes each of the tribes would get some stat modifications and or light special abilities that help to make them a little more unique in the game.  The stats shouldn?t vary too much from the mmud 100 flat stat base, no more than 10 in either direction. The goal exp modifier would fit into the range of +0% to +10%.

I haven?t put a great deal of thought into exactly what each of the tribes would get but the base idea behind it is this.

Northern Tribe ?Think Viking like?: They hail from the frigid north they are strong and hearty people.
+resist cold, +resting rate

Southern Tribe ?Think Moorish?: They come from the deserts they are strong and agile people.
+resist heat, +1 max dmg and maybe similar combat modifies to accuracy.

I?d like to do a few others since the northern and southern are lightly geared toward fighter classes. So ideally there would be one for each magic style and a bonus one that might get something like a increased kai regen or something.

Does anyone like this direction of making humans slightly more usefull?

I favor such an idea.

I (and others?) play races because of certain bonuses in the beginning, not so much for stats because of abilty and bonus caps. Besides, humans are boring and what class really needs to have well rounded stats to do well? Any? didn't think so.

Yes clearly I'm making a text porn.  Lesuire Suit Mud.

I'm gonna stick with the basics until we rework combat.

The Crazy Animal

I kind of figured that but wanted to see if this was an idea worth following up on.

TCA

DeathCow

I theory combat changes *should* fix that problem..

The Crazy Animal

I guess we'll have to wait for those changes to come then.

I had fiddled with such variations on a test I did, and it seemed to be rather triumphant in giving humans a renewed usage.

The way to get around all of this and still classify as "human" in descriptors though would be to have a sub-menu on character creation, and that would determine stats and exp % and any sort of bonuses.

"Yes, I'd like to be a human, but I'd like to be from _____ region."

DeathCow

If I did something like this, I don't know why I'd limit it to just humans.  Unless is was simply put in as a balancing act.

The Crazy Animal

It could be expanded to other races later depending on how it works out but I would start it as a buff for humans then experiment with it from there.

Take elf for example you could have a mana regen / mana% bonus play off depending on where the elf comes from.  Stuff like this would help some classes in some ways and other in other ways. Like for example a pally has less use for huge amounts of mana but would benifit better from increased regen while a mage might get more use out of the extra bonus mana since they already have a boosted mana regen.

If you wanted to base it off of say, D&D or some other type of roleplaying/fantasy environment, here's some stuffs:

humans: hundreds of nations. ok, covered.
dwarves: gold dwarves, derro, duergar, gully dwarves.
gnomes: rock gnomes, deep gnomes
elves: sun elf, moon elf, wild elf. or, high elf, gray elf, wood-elf. (same thing?)
halflings: strongheart, ghostwise, tallfellow

all of these can be expanded upon if you'd like?

Valentine gave me like 2 gigs of d&d books in pdf.  Thanks for pointing out that this info is in there.  I'll take a look at it.

I have like 9000 pages of d&d, no way I'd ever read it all....any idea what book this stuff would be in?

grunyo

I am nerd to the extreme, and I have read them all.

Check the various Forgottem Realms or Faerun books. the main Forgottem Realms campaign setting even gives descriptions of the various sub-races, comparisons to humans, and even races of humans. You're not worried about copyrights, are you? :)

It also lists bonuses the various sub-races get.

There's also regional "feats", which would be a good reference for the various nations of humans.

Have funs!

The Crazy Animal

Grin I knew D&D had to be good for something... other than just confusing me :)

This is the type of thing I was thinking when I posted it but figured I'd just push for humans first since almost no-one plays them anymore.

I'm not that worried about copyrights at the moment I checked and there is enough other games out there that use regional race sub-divisions that with a little creative writing/renaming we could make our system seem unique.

eh. I have a human, ranger-style. He's quick and deadly with demonic pitchfork. kinda fun

The Crazy Animal

grin sounds like something I wouldn't mind seeing, I'm kinda glad to hear someone is still playing humans too :)
