Is this a bug or intended on how backstabs and stealth should

I can move a room sneak and come back in and rebs while he still has combat engaged? how does that make any sense? especailly with QND gone.

Is this the way this intended to work?

Here are the steps to reproduce

A attacks B
B moves one room
B sneaks
B moves back into room with A
B backstabs A

neither player will break combat.

combat will automatically break if the round ends and both people are in different rooms. if the move is made within the combat round, combat does not break, unless you type 'break'.
as for QnD having anything to do with this. . .?

obivously you didnt see the problem? if combat is engaged by player A then how is player B leaving the room,  sneaking and coming back in and  backstabbing him while player A is still engaged on player B?

From memory what would happen on regular Majormud, when player B moves out of the room and attempts to sneak, it will say 'you cannot sneak right now' until the combat round fires. I also seem to remember that if you attempt to backstab someone that already has combat engaged on you, you will just perform a normal attack, not a backstab.

I do have some conflicting memories about this though. It'd be nice to have a regular mud board to test this stuff out. It'd make submitting bug reports much easier.

No you are 100% correct, this is how it works in regular mud. After seeing both Gardner and Deathcow discuss this I am trying to figure out if this is how they intended this to work or is this a bug, I would love a reply from Gardner or Vitoc on this matter.

No this was not the way it was intended.  In fact code was put in to try and prevent this from happening.

In regular mud if you cast a spell on someone and they are sneaking into the room (which you can do even if you are not gaunt) it breaks their backstab and all theydo is get a regular round:

This should of canceled out his backstab regardless of any other actions at least thats the wayit works in mmud

Obviously you tried to edit out all your hps but you failed.  Other than that the bugs in the cap still stand fail edits or not.  Also if I kept caps of pvp like every other nerd on this bbs does you would see from my end that I never broke combat once so you coming back in the room bsing bootsy should not have happened regardless of me reengaging on you when you came in that was just to fail my entangle.

So gardner do consider those two items bugs?

first being the ability to backstab someone while combat is engaged on you and the second being the backstab after a spell has been cast on you (I also wonder if I have landed my entangle if the backstab would of still landed)
